Jesus Christ is the central figure of the New Testament and is revered by Christians as the Son of God and savior of humanity. Here are some key Bible verses that reveal truths about Jesus:
Old Testament prophecies about Jesus
Several Old Testament verses predicted the coming of a Messiah. These verses point to Jesus as the fulfillment of those ancient prophecies.
Isaiah 7:14 – “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” This verse predicts Jesus’ virgin birth.
Isaiah 9:6-7 – “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end.” This passage points to Jesus as a ruler with divine titles.
Micah 5:2 – “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.” This prophecy names Bethlehem as the birthplace of the Messiah, which was fulfilled when Jesus was born there.
Psalm 22 – This entire Psalm prophetically describes the crucifixion experience, including the mocking and piercing of hands and feet, which happened to Jesus.
Zechariah 9:9 – “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, fulfilling this prophecy.
Jesus’ divine nature
Several verses affirm Jesus’ divine nature and equality with God.
John 1:1-3, 14 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made…And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” This passage calls Jesus the Word and God.
John 10:30 – “I and the Father are one.” Jesus claimed unity with God.
John 14:9 – “Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” Jesus claimed that knowing Him was the same as knowing God.
Colossians 1:15-17 – “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” This asserts Christ’s role in creation as the visible image of God.
Colossians 2:9 – “For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily.” Jesus was fully God in bodily form.

Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” Jesus calmed a storm instantly.

And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven.” …And he rose and went home. When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.” Jesus healed a paralytic and forgave his sins with divine authority.
John 11:43-44 – “When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.” The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth.
