The Bible gives us glimpses of what Heaven will be like and what we will do there. While we can’t know everything about our future heavenly home, Scripture reveals enough to stir our imagination and fill us with hope and longing for eternity with God.
We Will Worship God Continually
In Heaven, we will join the angels and saints in worshiping and glorifying God without ceasing. The book of Revelation describes the praise of God around His throne: “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” (Revelation 4:8 ESV). We were created to worship God, and that is what we will spend eternity doing – praising Him for His glory, wisdom, power and love.
We Will Serve God
While worship involves declaring God’s worth, service is actively living out our worship. Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love God and love others (Matthew 22:36-40). In Heaven, we will serve God by expressing our love for Him and for one another. We don’t know exactly what this service will look like, but it will involve using our God-given talents and gifts to benefit God’s kingdom and bring Him maximum glory.
We Will Reign with Christ
Jesus promised His followers, “The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne…” (Revelation 3:21). Believers will reign with Christ, sharing in His rule and authority over the new heavens and new earth. We will assist Christ as He governs His eternal kingdom in perfect righteousness, justice and peace.
We Will Feast at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb
When Christ returns, He will celebrate the great marriage feast with His bride, the church (Revelation 19:7-9). This feast celebrates the intimate fellowship between Christ and His people. It signifies our eternal union with God and the rich blessings He has prepared for us. We can look forward to feasting in God’s presence and enjoying sweet communion with Him.
We Will Live in New Resurrected Bodies
At the final resurrection, we will receive glorious, imperishable bodies that are no longer subject to weakness, sin and death (1 Corinthians 15:42-44, 50-53). We will be raised in power, no longer bound by the limits of our earthly bodies. Our new resurrection bodies allow us to serve God in Heaven without distraction or constraint.
We Will Rest from Our Labors
Heaven is depicted as a place of rest from earthly toil. Hebrews 4:9-10 says, “There remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God…whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.” The burdens and struggles of this life will cease. We can look forward to resting in God’s presence and enjoying the fruits of our earthly labors.
We Will See God Face to Face
The greatest blessing of Heaven will be seeing God face to face. 1 John 3:2 says, “We shall see him as he is.” In Heaven, the pure in heart will gaze upon the glory of God and see Him with unobstructed closeness. Seeing God was what Moses longed for (Exodus 33:18-23). It will bring us indescribable joy.
We Will Fellowship with Believers
Heaven means enjoying eternal, unbroken fellowship with God’s people. We will be united with loved ones in the faith who have gone before us. There will be no divisions, strife or misunderstandings – just perfect love, community and friendship with all believers in Christ’s presence.
We Will Share in the New Creation
Scripture paints a majestic picture of the new heavens and new earth we will inhabit for eternity (Revelation 21:1-4). We will live in this wondrous new creation free from sin, suffering and the curse of the old creation. We will share in its glory and freedom forever.
We Will Discover the Wonders of God’s Universe
Our exploration and discovery of God’s vast universe has only begun. In Heaven, the mysteries of creation will be unlocked for us as we marvel at the new heavens and earth. Think of how many galaxies, worlds and dimensions await us! Our joy will be endless as we discover the wonders of God’s design.
We Will Receive Perfect Healing
Sickness, disease, disability, pain and mental distress will all cease when we enter eternity. Our minds and bodies will finally be free from all effects of the curse (Revelation 21:4). We will enjoy perfect wholeness and health in our resurrected bodies. What unfathomable relief and comfort!
We Will Rule and Judge with Christ
The Bible teaches that believers will participate in Christ’s rule and judgment during the Millennial Kingdom and into eternity. 1 Corinthians 6:2-3 says the saints will judge the world and rule over angels. As co-heirs with Christ, we will share in His authority over creation.
We Will Grow in Knowledge and Wisdom
Our pursuit of greater knowledge and wisdom will not end in Heaven. With eternity before us, there is unlimited room for growth. Imagine having billions of years to reflect on the mysteries of God, study His creation, and gain deeper insight into His ways! Our glorified minds will be able to comprehend so much more.
We Will Enjoy Meaningful Work and Purpose
The Bible gives us no reason to think that work will end in Heaven. Our work will simply be redeemed, without toil or futility. Just as God works, so will we, finding purpose in tasks that build His eternal kingdom. Work will not be a burden, but a creative outlet for our God-given abilities.
We Will Live in Dwellings Jesus Has Prepared
Jesus said, “In my Father’s house are many rooms…I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2). Jesus is designing perfect dwellings for us in Heaven. Imagine a home personally crafted for you by the King of kings! We will rest in the rooms He has lovingly prepared for each of us.
We Will Experience No More Tears or Pain
Heaven will be a place of eternal comfort. “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4). The sorrow and hurting of this age will disappear.
We Will Enjoy Intimate Fellowship with Christ
The central joy of Heaven will be dwelling with Christ face to face. He will no longer be distant, but directly known and embraced in intimacy. With angels and saints, we will gather around Him, commune with Him, and find our greatest delight in His presence.
We Will Be Filled with Inexpressible Joy
“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11). The joy we will experience being with God forever is beyond our limited human comprehension. It will be a joy that overflows and saturates us.
We Will Shine with Christ’s Glory
When Christ appears, “we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2). As we gaze on His radiant glory, we will be transformed into His image “from one degree of glory to another” (2 Corinthians 3:18). His glory will infuse us.
We Will Bear Fruit That Lasts
At the judgement seat of Christ, believers will be rewarded for deeds done in the body, whether good or worthless (2 Corinthians 5:10). The work we do for God’s kingdom will endure for eternity. Our labors are not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58). The fruit we produce will remain.
We Will Receive Our Inheritance
“We are children of God, and if children, then heirs – heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:16-17). Our eternal inheritance includes treasures we cannot fathom. As co-heirs with Christ, all that is His will be ours – the infinite blessings of God Himself!
We Will Live in Righteousness and Perfection
Nothing unclean or evil will ever enter Heaven (Revelation 21:27). No sin, darkness, pollution or immorality of any kind. Heaven is a holy habitation ruled by the Lamb. We will live in a state of flawless righteousness, purity, and perfection before God.
We Will Experience Complete Renewal and Restoration
The curse of the first creation will be no more (Revelation 22:3). All the damage done by sin and evil on earth will be fully undone. Brokenness will make way for wholeness. Weakness will make way for strength. Everything will be made new and restored to God’s original design.

We Will Behold the Beauty of God’s Holiness
“One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.” (Psalm 27:4). The majesty of God’s holiness will be our breathtaking view. His beauty will captivate us.
We Will Bask in the Presence of Christ
The radiant presence of Christ will be the light of Heaven (Revelation 21:23). We will live face-to-face with Him, enveloped in His presence. All our deepest longings for love, acceptance, and belonging will be satisfied in Him. He will be our supreme delight.
We Will Worship at God’s Throne
In awe and reverence, we will approach the throne of God and the Lamb to give Them glory, honor and praise (Revelation 22:1-5). We will join the angelic creatures in holy worship before our Creator and Redeemer. Pure adoration will consume us.
We Will Explore the New Heavens and Earth
With new resurrected bodies, we will be free to travel and discover the wonders of the new creation. No terrain will be off limits. Imagine roaming gorgeous landscapes, lush gardens, and fantastical places beyond our imagination, all perfectly crafted by God for our enjoyment.
We Will Engage in Meaningful Service
Heaven will not be a place of idleness or boredom. We will have opportunities to use our God-given abilities in service to God and others. Our gifts will align with meaningful tasks that contribute to God’s eternal kingdom. Service will bring us great joy and fulfillment.
We Will Study at the Feet of Christ
Jesus will continue to teach us in Heaven, revealing deeper truths about God’s character and ways. With our limited earthly perspective erased, we will learn as never before. Sitting at His feet will be a treasure beyond comparison. Our understanding will vastly expand.
We Will Enjoy Physical Life Free from Corruption
Our new resurrection bodies will be real and tangible, only without the corruption and limitations of our current bodies. We will experience the pleasures of physical life – eating, drinking, embracing, traveling, sensing, moving, working – but without pain or fatigue.
We Will Fellowship with Old and New Friends
Heaven’s society will be rich and diverse. We will enjoy reunion with loved ones who went before us. But there will also be new friendships to forge and grow. The communion between believers will be sweet, grounded in our common love for Christ. There will be no misunderstandings or loneliness.
While many details about Heaven remain shrouded in mystery, these glimpses from Scripture give us enough to rejoice in. More than anything, Heaven means perfect intimacy with God, the Lover of our souls. United with Him in glorious resurrected bodies, we will experience joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory (1 Peter 1:8). The wonders of Heaven far exceed anything we have known on earth.
